our approach
Children don’t learn best sitting still! They learn through movement, exploration, and real-life experiences. Nature-based occupational therapy creates opportunities for children to build skills in a setting that naturally supports engagement, regulation, and confidence.
Outdoor environments offer something different than a clinic or classroom. Uneven terrain, open space, and changing conditions invite children to move their bodies, solve problems, and adapt in real time. These experiences support the development of balance, coordination, attention, and emotional regulation in a way that feels meaningful and motivating.
For many children, being outside can also reduce overwhelm. Natural settings tend to be less overstimulating than indoor environments, which can help children who struggle with sensory processing, attention, or regulation feel more calm, focused, and successful.
Nature-based therapy is not meant to replace school-based or outpatient occupational therapy. We think it complements it. While traditional settings often focus on specific skill development, outdoor sessions provide opportunities to practice those skills in real-world contexts, helping children generalize what they’ve learned into everyday life.
